Welcome to the O Deer Christmas Treasure Hunt…
Originally, we were going to do a single post featuring the O Deer Favorite Christmas Shopping Sites. However, we are such an eclectic group, with intersecting but still widely divergent tastes and styles, that we decided to do not one, but three gift guides featuring the places and products we like best for online shopping. My tastes are indeed eclectic, and I think the list below reflects that. I’m a grandmother who cooks, sews, gardens and does the balance of my work-work on the computer. Here are some of the best shops I have found… (gwen)
A Few of My Favorite Things…
This place stocks an ever changing array of home decor, vintage reproductions and farmhouse accessories at discounted prices. If you are like me (or even not—there’s something for a wide array of tastes here) and covet things rustic, charming, shabby, or industrial utilitarian, this is a great place to peruse.
This amazingly beautiful online gallery had me the moment I laid eyes on their one-of-a-kind cutting boards, but they have so much more to offer—ceramics, textiles, leather, stone, glass and more—items created painstakingly by talented artisans. For someone special on your gift list, check out the delightful and unexpected goods on this site.
Creative Junkee… handmade gifts with a vintage flair
Since we at O Deer have an Etsy Shop of our own, I spend a lot of time on Etsy, and I began shopping there long before. I follow quite an array of amazing shops, so of course several of them show up here. Creative Junkee is beyond cute— handmade items with a decidedly retro or vintage flair. I am in love with her vintage camper and typewriter appliques on totes, pillows and coasters.
Decor Steals is a Deal of the Day! retailer of home decor items for those who love rustic/country/prim/shabby/vintage/industrial looks. With prices up to 80% off retail, it is worthwhile to follow or check back regularly for what is new. Every day brings the offer of one new deal starting at 10:00 a.m. Eastern, and once it’s gone, it’s gone!
Gracemere Woods… Inspired by the spirit of the forest
This shop takes the wood slice art you have probably been seeing on Pinterest and Instagram, to a whole new level. Their hand-painted necklaces, ornaments, cards and magnets are beautiful, evocative, graceful and just amazing. Lovely gifts here for the nature lover in your life.
Half Light Honey…Handbuilt Ceramics by Samantha Carter
Another Etsy shop I admire greatly. These ceramic pots, bowls, birdhouses and more, are very organic in style and just so appealing. They are very ornamental, and yet rather spare and minimalist at the same time if that is possible. Anyone’s home or garden would be enhanced by one of these pieces
Magnolia Market… Home. It’s your space. Own it.
I would call it a guilty pleasure, but I don’t feel guilty. I am absolutely in love with Fixer Upper hosts Joanna and Chip Gaines. I have watched their show since the first episode, and follow them on social media. I love Joanna’s style, Chip’s warmth and humor, and their ability as a couple to connect with their clients, customers and viewers. More than almost anything I would love to go shop at their recently opened new Magnolia Market Shop at the Silos, but in lieu of that, visit the online shop for many of the accessories and home decor items you see on the show. (Also some awesome Tee-shirts and totes.)
More Fantastic Shops after the Gallery… Product images in this post do not belong to O-Deer. They are the property of their respective websites of origin. We are not affiliated in any way with the shops featured in this guide with the exception of O Deer Mercantile .
For the earth-child, starseed, crystal lover in your life— or anyone who loves minerals, art inspired by them, or amazingly beautiful jewelry. This is Etsy for those focused solely on the mineral kingdom, a collection of shops and vendors showing off some incredibly beautiful and often Shiny wares. Lots of information about the individual gems and minerals here. Bling for the Soul.
Mullein and Sparrow…A Brooklyn Botanical
Amazing beauty and bath products, non-toxic, holistic and created with a yogic philosophy and sustainability in mind. Hand distilled products, beautifully packaged and presented. No woman on your gift list could possibly resist these bath salts, teas, facial serums and masks or lip balms.
Potluck Press… Where Everyone Brings Something To The Table
I just love the variety of artistic styles offered by this company. Their products range from printed cotton tea towels, to magnets, notebooks, art-boards and cards for any and all occasions. A diverse group of talented artists and designers brings a refreshingly unique aspect to this product line.
Seed Savers Exchange… Passing on our Garden Heritage
Seed Savers Exchange is a non-profit organization dedicated to maintaining biodiversity and preserving heirloom varieties of plants, trees and domestic animals. They support this work through donations, memberships, and purchases from their online shop. For the gardener in your life, seeds, plants or gifts from this wonderful organization would make a perfect present. It may be winter, but the gardeners among us never quit planning or dreaming about the next planting season.
The Spangled Maker… Wearable Art For Your Curious Wardrobe
Vintage illustrations on plastic and wood, made into some of the most fascinating jewelry and ornaments I have seen anywhere. You just have to visit this Curious Etsy seller’s shop for yourself.
The Sugar Diva… Because Everybody Needs a Little Sugar
From paper straws and milk bottles, to planners, packaging and favors, this shop has everything you need to have a party or celebrate an occasion. There is way too much to even begin to list here, but if our holiday plans include any kind of entertaining or gifting of baked goods, etc., you need to check this shop out. Amazing!
Think Geek… Join In. Geek Out.
This last online retailer may seem a departure from my previous entries, but it is only last because I alphabetized my Gift Guide. When you live in a house full of people who mostly live and breath computers and technology, you have to have the proper place to shop for them. And I must admit that while I love vintage and handcrafted items, my favorite apparel is a “Firefly” tee from Think Geek. I have shopped with them for years, and always been pleased with their service and their products. Definitely the destination to shop for the Geeks on your list.
I hope you enjoyed this gift guide, the ? in our series of three. Don’t forget that Saturday, November 28th, is Small Business Saturday. As you shop for the Holidays this year, don’t neglect these amazing entrepreneurs whether you are shopping Local or online.
We would love it if you would stop by O Deer Mercantile during this Christmas Season! Hope to see you there…
Happy Thanksgiving from the O Deer Household to yours!
