Shop Small, Shop Local & Have Fun!
Welcome to the Holiday chaos and madness (and hopefully, fun and fulfilling) of 2017. If you’re like me, you wonder how it got here so fast. Didn’t we just put away the decorations? Well, my views on the acceleration of Time are for another post. Today, I’m going to talk about Christmas Shopping. I actually started mine as early as October, but as usual, I still haven’t had the time to get as much done as I hoped. So, I will be braving the stores again later this week.
I would like to say that I do all of my gift shopping either in small local shops or venues like Etsy, Artfire or Big Cartel. And it is true that I do more of it each year in these more independent venues. However, the economic reality is that I still purchase certain items where I can get the convenience and better deals of the Big Store. I must admit also, that I love me some Target and Home Goods. I also love downtown though, and Main Street type shopping, as well as going to quirky, out-of-the-way, small shops.
With all that said, with the constraints of being a business owner, and very busy (Yay!!!) this time of year, I do quite a lot of my holiday purchasing online. Being an Etsy Seller, I remain loyal to my fellow shop owners and do much of my shopping with them. That’s why you will see them figuring so heavily in my list of favorite places to shop online.
In no particular order, here are some shops I love…
Dovekie & Finch …Concrete planters and magnets in unexpected shapes and configurations.
Air plants and awesome decor!
Primrose Trail Vintage…Vintage, Retro, Mid-Century Treasures
This shop goes above and beyond! Rita knows I love Georges Briard. She lets me know when she has one of his pieces listed. Amazing Mid Century and vintage.
Happy B Day To Me… Home Decor and other Unique Items
A lovely mix of vintage, handmade and upcycled items. I found this shop first on Instagram, where her fun feed lured me in with some of her lovely handmade earrings. Great service!!!
Saracen Provisions >>>for the gypsy soul<<<
One of the most beautiful shops on Etsy. And the smell when you open your box from this shop—heavenly. I have a bowl full of their loose incense sitting on my Alter/Cart next to my desk. Gemstones and Oils and Floral Smudge Bundles, Oh My!!
Geo Specimens… Wholesale Distributor of Minerals, Crystals & Geodes
If you like gemstones and crystals as much as I do, this shop is super. you can get bulk stone for decorating, resale or just to love at great prices. Daryl goes out of his way to please. Wonderful shop!
Broken Compass… Wood Ornaments, Magnets, Trays and More
Anna Martini’s little shop is a delight. All sorts of wood embellishes with burnt/etched designs. I bought a very cute and very reasonable Crystal Grid from her. Great service
Thrift Store Addiction… Vintage & Repurposed Home & Garden
All sorts of vintage goodies. You’ll find Cecelia’s Blog listed on my Favorite Blog List from last year, and I still read all her posts about Thrifty finds, upcycling and using these lovelies in her decor. Love her shop.
Retro Christmas Card Company… Retro Christmas Cards with Vintage Style
Since I love vintage and am smitten with anything Mid Century Modern, I love, love these cards. Service was great and they shipped amazingly fast.
JUNGALOW… BRING GOOD VIBES HOME
WITH BOHEMIAN MODERN HOME DECOR FROM JUNGALOW® BY JUSTINA BLAKENEY
My latest design/style Crush. I love everything about Justina Blakeney’s approach to modern bohemian-hippie style. I definitely recommend taking a look at this exciting shop.
Still our favorite shopping destination in the area. Awesome antique and vintage goods, clothing, decor— this downtown shop is a destination. If you are in Daytona check it out:
