Happy Halloween From O Deer Mercantile

O Deer Mercantile- Happy Halloween 2016Hi there…

Here’s hoping your Hallow e’en is a Treat! We are ready to later this evening host our first Trick-or-Treaters in ten years or so. We lived in North Carolina for years before moving back to Florida— for a while clinging to a steep mountainside, and then in a cozy cabin 30 miles from the small town of Murphy. Once we relocated here, it was to the rural home my parents built years back. So, still no Halloween visitors. For the last several years, I have spent Halloween night visiting with my Dad and Stepmom, and helping to greet the numerous small ghosts, goblins, princesses, aliens, etc. that always visit their home in droves.

This year, newly experiencing life in a neighborhood, we will be turning on the outdoor lights to let costumed kids know we welcome them.  I sure hope I have enough treats on hand. Since we have only recently moved into this area, I have no idea how many visitors to expect. There have been so many changes this year. I think this will be a fun one.

O Deer Mercantile- No bones about it!! Gaia in Papyrus Tee Shirt.

Gaia and I have been busy decorating for the past couple of weeks. From pumpkins, to ghosts and black cats, we are festooned with all things Halloween. This just passed Saturday night was our annual (a first for this house though) Halloween costume party. It was a Hoot!!! I missed the Barn festivities of years gone by, and the kids were unhappy that they didn’t get to dash about in the dark on a humorous and quirky Scavenger Hunt this year. However, the yard is still a mess following Hurricane Matthew and the work of the tree cutting crew last week, so I deemed it unsafe for outdoor frivolity. Maybe next year…

Halloween 2016 Witch's Kiss Cocktail
Witch’s Kiss Cocktail

The costumes were fabulous. We had Clint Eastwood circa the Spaghetti Western era, a small Wonder-woman, a not so small Black Widow and Harley Quin, Sugar Skull Guy, the Pillsbury Doughboy, a  blue haired Mad Scientist (Rick of Rick and Morty) ,  a green Leprechaun, Karamatsu Matsuno, and some mellow 70s Hippies, etc. The food was plentiful, we played a Halloween sound track put together by my son in the Florida room, while the Rocky Horror Picture Show played on the big TV in the living room. Dry ice added a spooky dimension to the cocktail of the evening— The Witch’s Kiss. The tasty purple drink was a sort of combination of some we found online. Check out my Pinterest Board Hallowe’en for links to these cocktails, some cool recipes and other ideas for decorating and celebrating All Hallows Eve.

Just a few more hours and we will put away one Fall Holiday only to move on to the next. Thanksgiving will be here before we know it. For today and tonight, have fun and be safe for this amazing Halloween…
